Bayfields Opticians and Audiologists Barnard Castle
Our family-led practice has been here since 1982, providing you with the highest standards of professional eye and hearing care.
Our thorough eye tests last around 45 minutes and include retinal photography as standard. Did you know that besides supposedly being ‘a window onto the soul’, the eye can also be an indicator of aspects of your general health? Our eye tests can pick up any problems with your eye but also with your wider health; a burst blood vessel you didn’t know about, for example, could be a sign of high blood pressure.
Minor eye conditions service
If you develop a minor but irritating problem with your eyes, we’ll be happy to take a look – and this is a free NHS service. So if your eyes suddenly feel sore or sticky, or you see flashing lights or a veil over your vision, you could be assessed and treated by us. If you need to be referred elsewhere, we can advise you.
What about your hearing?
Whether you know you have problems with your hearing or were just wanting to get checked, why not ask for an audiology appointment with us? We offer free hearing tests, that usually last around 15 minutes.

We’re in Market Place, just a few yards from the Butter Market. There’s free on-street parking directly opposite us; alternatively there are inexpensive car parks on Hole in the Wall and Galgate.

Would thoroughly recommend Bayfields Opticians of Barnard Castle. Having moved into the area 3 years ago I've been delighted with the level of service offered every time. My sight needs are fairly complex, so it is reassuring to know I'm in good hands, whether for actual eye tests or choosing new frames and lenses.
